Let’s start this with a riddle

This thing all things devours: Birds, beasts, trees, flowers; Gnaws iron, bites steel; Grinds hard stones to meal; Slay king, ruins town, and beats high mountain down.

The answer to that riddle is Time. Time has always been a riddle that many have sought an answer. Does time have a beginning? And will it have an end?

As a Christian, we can go to the bible to search for the beginning of time. In Genesis 1:1; we read, In the beginning God created…… Is that the beginning of time itself? Or that is just the beginning of our own timeline? Immanuel Kant created a theory around time been a mathematical line, which could mean that time is a line between two fixed points.

If we look critically, we would understand that all of human history is inscribed on a single timeline, and everybody has their own stretch of that timeline. Everybody will step off the line when their time is done. C.W Lewis & J.F.Kennedy stepped off the line on the same day.

What really matter is not when we stepped off the line, but what we did with our stretch of the timeline. We are also not in a position to determine when we will step off the time. That’s why David would say in Psalms 31:14–15; “I trust in you, O Lord; I say, You are my God, and my times are in your hand”. Yes, God is the one who marks the beginning of the portion of our timeline, and knows the precise second it will end.

Time is a mystery, and the secret belongs to the one who created it. We can never unravel the mystery of time, but we can use it to our advantage by having a “time perspective”. We can learn how the timeline works and create a better future because of it.

Peter in 2 Peter 3:8, gave us another dimension to time or our stretch of the timeline. “Do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years is like a day”. This simply translates into saying that a thousand years passing can register in heaven as just a day, but also a single day in God’s hand can have a thousand years' worth of significance. Little is much when God is in it, and every moment counts. He can expand the reach and impact of each hour and moment of our lives.
